Climate Change Research Institute celebrated ‘World Environment Day’ on June 5, 2015. On this day lecture entitled 'CO2 Sequestration: a fresh outlook' was delivered by Prof. Malti Goel, Former Advisor & Emeritus Scientist, Ministry of Science & Technology  at, India International Centre, New Delhi.

Carbon sequestration has emerged as an option to reduce the concentrations of carbon dioxide getting accumulated in the atmosphere from increasing use of fossil fuel combustion. Giving history of 120 years of climate change science due to anthropogenic effects, she highlighted biotic and engineering processes for achieving carbon sequestration. The global and Indian scenario of technology development was discussed.

Prof. G. D. Sharma, Former Secretary, UGC presided over the event and set the agenda about the need to address climate change through technology measures. He emphasized that understanding of greenhouse gas mitigation and carbon sequestration is necessary to take actions to stop environmental degradation. Former Vice Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard, Prof. S. Ahmad also addressed the participants on the importance of the topic. Chief Guest Prof. Javed Ahmed, Dean (Faculty of Science), Jamia Hamdard University said that not only underground storage but terrestrial sequestration is very important for India. During his speech Prof. Pranav Desai, JNU reminded us that since 5th June, 1973 we have been celebrating World Environment Day. He also described how economic, social and environmental components need to be considered in an integrated manner to ensure that there are minimum conflicts.

The lecture attended by eminent dignitaries, invited participation from various colleges and other institutions, was followed by many questions about the topic. Dr. Neha Tripathi, presented vote of thanks. TERI Press has displayed their publications in the event.
