Lecture on "Beat - Air Pollution"

The Climate Change Research Institute in association with India International Centre and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) organized the World Environment Day Campaign 2019. Mrs. Maya Gupta, Director-Principal, Universal Public School delivered the Guest lecture in Environment and Earth Care (EEC) lecture series on ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ on 6th June, 2019. Teachers from Different Schools participated in large number. Environment is everything that is around us. It can be living or non-living. It includes physical, chemical and other natural forces which have direct or indirect impact on us. Using 3 R’s - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, can save energy and the natural resources and it also helps to reduce the pollution. She gave examples from ancient Vedas. Responsibilities of youth and teachers were mentioned. Initiative taken by Government of India i.e. ‘Hawa aane de’’ campaign for raising air pollution awareness was highlighted.


Dr. (Mrs.) Malti Goel, President, Climate Change Research Institute (CCRI), delivered the lecture on the theme ‘Chemistry and Environment’. She gave an example of ozone layer depletion caused by certain chemicals as refrigerants. The event was presided over by Dr. V. K. Garg, Ex- CMD – Power Finance Corporation Ltd. In the Inaugural address he said that future development of any nation is in the hands of teachers. He described environmental concerns due to air pollution and importance of chemistry in our life. Prof. G. D. Sharma, Ex-Secretary, UGC, his address enlightened the participants about the need of changing life styles to deal with the environment crisis due to climate change. On this occasion the Institute organized ‘Activity Based Learning for Science Teachers in Schools’ on 6th & 7th, 2019 in collaboration with the Royal Society of Chemistry, India Office.
