Inter-School Slogan Competition on Earth Day and Special Lecture ‘Waste Management Strategies

Climate Change Research Institute (CCRI) celebrated Earth Day 2015 and held an event for youth from schools on April 24th, 2015 jointly with India International Center supported by Ministry of Earth Sciences.  Dr Malti Goel, CEO, CCRI apprised the students, who participated in large numbers from Navyug School, Sardar Patel School, New Horizen Public School and Universal Public School, about the importance of Earth Day, its genesis and current status. A Special Lecture was organized and the Chief Guest Prof. D. P. Agrawal, Forman Chairman, UPSC and Chairman GC, CCRI talking on ‘WASTE MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES’ encouraged students towards cleanliness and to promote Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in our society and locality. Dr. B.C. Sabat, Dept. of Environment, Govt. of N.C.T. of Delhi was Guest of Honor. He shared his experiences and cited examples of cleanliness from developed countries, stressing on the need of becoming aware and taking action as a habit. Students from various schools shared their experiences on the work done in their locality. Awards and Certificates were given away to the winners and participants of Inter-school Slogan Writing competition. Earlier on April 22, 2015 an eminent jury had evaluated the 53 entries from students from class VIIIth to class Xth on the topics covering the Earth Day theme Clean Earth - Green Earthof this year, covering Swachh Bharat Abhiyan; Air Pollution, its causes & effects; Clean Rivers; Waste Management’ Role of Plantation for CO2 Sequestration in the atmosphere. Many entries were displayed during the event Eminent persons Mr. Gautam Sen, Ex-Executive Director, ONGC, Shri S. D. Tripathi, Ex-Executive Director-NHPC among others were present. Sh Tripathi announced the results of student competition.
