The Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences Dr. M. Rajeevan, released the book Carbon Utilization: Applications for the Energy Industry by Dr. Malti Goel and Dr. M. Sudhakar at the India Meteorological Department Foundation Day on 15 January 2018 at the NCUI Auditorium, Sirifort Institutional Area, New Delhi. Dr. K. J. Ramesh, Director General, India Meteorological Department and Dr. S. C. Bhan, Scientist ‘F’, IMD were present on the Dias. The function was attended by dignitaries and distinguished guests in large number.

With the growing threat of climate change resulting from increasing accumulation of greenhouse gases, CO2-sequestration technology is seen as an assurance for continuation of fossil fuels use in coal based economies. The book has wide coverage of inter-disciplinary research topics covered in its Nineteen Chapters grouped into four Parts.  Green technology perspectives for the aluminum, steel, cement and fertilizers industries are included.
Two key features of the book are;

  1. It highlights Indian contribution to CO2 sequestration and utilization research,
  2. It is unique in attempting to bridge the gap between academia & industry.

On the occasion, the Vote of thanks were presented by Dr. Malti Goel, who said that the book on ‘Carbon Utilization’ is written as a national effort toward human resource development and for policy advocacy. The book has a focus on the science and technology of anthropogenic carbon dioxide removal processes as a low carbon growth strategy for energy industry. Scientists and engineers from 23 organizations as R&D institutions, academic universities and industry have contributed, although they could not be present for the release due to short notice.

The book is edited by Malti Goel, President, Climate Change Research Institute and former Senior Adviser, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India and M. Sudhakar Scientist 'G/ Director CMLRI, Cochin.
