Lecture - ‘Plastics-A Sustainability Paradox’ by Mr Swapan Kumar, Secretary, ICPE

The Climate Change Research Institute in association with the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, NRC and India International Centre organized Second lecture on Wold Earth Day on ‘Plastics-A Sustainability Paradox’ by Mr Swapan Kumar, Secretary, Indian Centre for Plastics in the Environment (ICPE) on April 24th, 2024  at India International Center Annex, Lecture Hall 1, New Delhi, attended by the students from various schools and colleges in large number and other guests.

The event began with a Scientific Quiz about Plastic Pollution participated by 37 students. The Quiz comprised of 35 questions in four sections. After 20 minutes the papers were collected and evaluation was done. The Science campaign programme began with lamp lighting at 10:30 AM. Dr. (Mrs) Malti Goel President and Chief Executive, Climate Change Research Institute introduced the theme of the Lecture Series the importance of earth day. Special remarks were made by sh. Gautam Sen, Ex- Sr Vice President, Reliance, and Dr. S. Nand, Chairman, Indian Institution of Chemical Engineers, NRC. Chief Guest H.E. Mrs. May-Elin Stener, Ambassador, Royal Norwegian Embassy, graced the occasion. In her inaugural address she said in the context of world earth day theme, Norway’s plastic pollution and circular economy strategies have fruitfully resulted in the India-Norway Marine Pollution Initiative.  The CCRI Book on ‘Climate Action and Hydrogen Economy: Technologies shaping the Energy Transition’ was released on this occasion. The event featured Guest Lecture by Sh. Swapan Ray, Ex-Sr. Executive Vice President, Reliance Industries Ltd in the ‘Climate change and Net Zero’ series on “Plastics & The Sustainability Paradox”. The lecture captivated attendees with insights into the realm of plastic pollution.

In total 82 participants included about 50 students and teachers. Prizes were given to 10 participants in Quiz as First, Second, Third and Consolation awards. Mr. Neeraj Gupta and Ms. Gulreen actively managed the campaign and the quiz competition.

Certificates were given to all participating school/ college students. It was followed by lunch.
