First lecture held on National Science Day

Lecture - ‘A Journey towards a Greener Tomorrow’ by Prof. Anil Verma, IIT Delhi

The Climate Change Research Institute in association with the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, NRC and India International Centre organized First lecture on National Science Day on ‘A Journey towards a Greener Tomorrow’ by Prof. Anil Verma, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Delhi on February 28th, 2024 at India International Center, Seminar Hall 1&2, Kamladevi Block, IIC, New Delhi, attended by the students from various schools and colleges in large number.

The event began with lamp lighting at 10:30 AM. Dr. (Mrs) Malti Goel President and Chief Executive, Climate Change Research Institute introduced the theme of the Lecture Series. The lecture series "Environment and Earth Care" is renamed "Climate Change and Net Zero". It is being held first time to highlight the importance of net zero with a goal of creating awareness about the scientific response to climate change threats facing the humanity. The event featured Prof Anil Verma, Chemical Engineering, IIT, Delhi, who delivered an interactive lecture on "A Journey towards a Greener Tomorrow". Special remarks were made by Dr. S. Nand, Chairman, Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers, Northern Regional Centre. Chief Guest, Prof. D.P. Agrawal, Former Chairman, UPSC, Founder Director IITM, Gwalior, delivered the Inaugural Address.  He said we need to make decarbonisation as a mass movement in schools in a step towards net zero. Changing environment and ecology due to climate change are impacting our food security, water supply, agriculture, energy, transportation, Infrastructure, human health, and sustainable growth.  He released Bulletin of Climate SAR, Vol. VIII, No. 1, January 2024 issue having the theme ’Climate Action for Net Zero.

Total 77 participants included 60 students from Universal Public School, Lal Bahadur Shastri Smarak (JAVM) Sr. Sec. School, St Thomas Girls Sr. Sec School, Mandir Marg, and Birla Vidya Niketan from classes IX and XI. Students and teachers from Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences and Motilal Nehru College, Delhi University also participated.  The lecture captivated attendees with insights into the realm of electric vehicles.

Certificates were given to all participating school/ college students followed by the refreshments.
